About This Dakota Teak Wood Cane Bed
The headboard is a run of vertical slats, not a solid panel, and that changes two things. It keeps the wall behind visible so the bed doesn't block light in a small room, and it stops the headboard from being a large unbroken slab of teak that has to fight seasonal movement. Each slat is narrow enough to move independently within the top and bottom rails.
Look where a slat enters the rail. There should be no gap, no visible glue line, and no screw head — the slats are tenoned into mortises cut in the rails, which is a joint that holds by fit rather than by fastener. Slats that are simply screwed or pinned to the face of a rail work loose over years and start rattling when you lean back. These don't move.
Below that, the bed is plain on purpose. Thick square legs, flat side rails, low footboard, no carving. The side rails sit 14 inches off the floor, leaving usable room for storage boxes underneath.

Solid teak throughout, in a natural teak finish. Teak has a high natural oil content, which is why it resists moisture and insects and holds its shape in Indian conditions without heavy chemical maintenance.
It is comfortable with a pillow behind you, which is how most people sit up in bed anyway. Against bare back, slats are firmer than an upholstered headboard. If you read in bed for long stretches, an upholstered headboard is the softer option — see our beds collection.
The slats are tenoned into the top and bottom rails rather than screwed to the face, so they hold by fit. Nothing should rattle or shift with normal use.
No. The bed is supplied as a frame only. We recommend a mattress 15 to 25 cm thick. The mattress rests on a supported base within the frame.

It arrives knock-down for DIY assembly. The headboard, footboard, side rails, and base bolt together; fittings and instructions are included. Two people are recommended for handling the headboard.
It ships disassembled, so the largest single piece is the headboard — 76" wide for the King, 64" for the Queen, around 40" tall. It passes through standard Indian doorways of 36 inches and above when turned on its side.

Wipe with a dry or lightly damp cloth for daily cleaning. Avoid standing water and direct sunlight for extended periods. Apply a thin coat of raw linseed oil or furniture oil once every 12 to 18 months if the surface looks dry. Sheesham and Teak contain natural oils and do not require heavy chemical maintenance.
