About This Indiana Scalloped Edge Solid Wood Elegant Bed
Scalloped edges require precise cuts from dense wood. In a softer material, the curved edge chips at the high points within a couple of years of handling. Sheesham holds the profile. The headboard and footboard on this bed are cut to match, so the scallop pattern carries across the full width of the frame from either end of the room.
Sheesham (Indian Rosewood, Dalbergia sissoo) contains natural oils that resist moisture without an applied treatment. In a bedroom that runs humid through the monsoon months, Sheesham handles what MDF and veneer-on-softwood cannot: the dimensional stability holds, and the finish doesn't peel at the joint lines. The scalloped cut on the footboard means there's a lot of exposed edge grain on this piece. On Sheesham, that edge grain is protected by the same natural oil as the face grain.
