About This Velin Oval 6-8 Seater Extending Solid Wood Pedestal Dining Table
The extending mechanism on most oval tables sits at the mid-span, which is the table's most structurally stressed point. A double pedestal base handles this better than a single central leg: weight transfers to two points rather than one, so the table stays stable when the extension leaf is in place and people are seated at the far ends. This one extends from 160 to 200 cm. That 40 cm is the difference between a comfortable 6-seat and an 8-seat configuration at standard 55 cm per person.
The fluted pedestal columns are turned from solid wood, not assembled from profile-cut sections. Assembled pedestal bases have a join where the flutes meet at each section, which reads as a seam at eye level when you're seated. Turned columns are continuous. The double-pedestal configuration also means no corner legs to interrupt chair placement on the long sides.
