Sheesham or Teak: which wood for a bedroom?

Both are solid hardwoods that handle Indian climate conditions well. The difference comes down to grain character and performance in specific lighting and humidity conditions.

Sheesham (Dalbergia sissoo / Indian Rosewood) has a warm reddish-brown grain with natural variation. The interlocked grain pattern means no two pieces are identical. Sheesham contains natural oils that buffer moisture absorption at the cellular level, which is why it has been used in Indian furniture making for generations. How to care for solid wood bedroom furniture

Solid Sheesham and Teak require considerably less maintenance than their reputation suggests. For daily use: a dry cloth wipe is sufficient. Do not use wet cloths or spray cleaners directly on the surface.

In rooms that are air-conditioned year-round, the low humidity dries the wood's natural oils over time. Annual application of raw linseed oil replenishes this, applied in a thin coat, left 20-30 minutes, then fully buffed off.
